What are your thoughts about Mainstream Hispsters?

Personally, I think they the type of people who just wants attention, uses tumblr for searching a new trend and forcefully listens to indie just because it´s the anti-mainstream music that is trending quite rapidly this past years

I´m not saying that I hate hipsters, but I think that hipsters from the 70´s and 60´s eras would facepalm themselves if they saw the modern mainstream hipsters today

There's like 2 groups of them at my school and they make me want to jump off a cliff

The term no longer has any meaning as there are so many "hipsters" nowadays that it's no longer possible to be one.

Mainstream hipsters aren't a thing. Real hipsters are people who don't confirm to mainstram "rules." A person who is really a hipster would never force themselves to listen to music stereotyped as hipster music. I know plenty of hipsters that listen to just about anything.

The people you're talking about are indeed just trying to be noticed for standing out and generally follow in others' footsteps.

A 'hipster' who listens to as many lesser known artists as possible just to appear hipster is just seeking for attention - and I've come across many of these on the web, including ATRL.

Being hipster is all about your state of mind. The day the wannabe-hipster realise this, that's the day he'll be on the verge of becoming a hipster by definition. You may listen to Beyonce, but be hipster.

These are just music-wise. There are more to being a hipster than just the music you listen to.

They make me cringe.

The hipster we know no longer exists. Like all subcultures, it exists and then the mainstream picks it up and it dilutes until it's no longer the same.

So, the version of a hipster we think about: Fake glasses, skinny jeans, scarves, vintage clothing, etc. has now been consumed by mainstream culture to the point that those who derided hipsters in 2008 are now wearing the same jeans they scoffed at, and listening to more "indie" music on the radios.

Exactly. To be honest I think people use the term now to describe someone who doesn't exactly conform to the norm, and who makes them feel somehow inferior in doing so. It's generally a petty and bitter remark to call someone a hipster and I think it reveals more about the people who say it than those accused of being it.
