They can be jarring at first, but once you get used to them you realize how awesome they are. There is also many different ways to do a whistle note. Like Mariah's can be strong and powerful like in "There's Got To Be A Way" or soft like in the "Angel (Prelude)." All depends on the song and how it's used.
