I'm offended at the fact that straights are the reason we are such an oppressed group, yet they use something that we struggle with to gain a foothold for themselves. I'm disgusted.

I don't think LGBT-only job festivals is a good idea, I don't know a lot but to me it sounds like positive discrimination towards jobs. That's still discrimination

have you seen the stats AND news stories gurl , we are one of the most discriminated minority groups when it comes to jobs - our employment levels are pretty low too. these businesses at these job fairs actually want us GAYS and for straights to use that advantage ( i wouldnt even call it a advantage , its leverage) ...i cant.

I agree, this is disgusting.

Probably an unpopular opinion around here, but I kinda feel the same way about gay4pay ****, and pretty much any instance in which a straight pretends to be gay (was watching some documentary a while back about straight bartenders at gay bars who lead customer's on and get better tips).

Honestly, being gay is so good for networking. It's a great connection. That's where the aspect of 'community' lies nowadays. It's not so much about fighting for rights as it is helping other gay guys get ahead with their careers.

It's the same reason why Jewish people have a stereotype for being rich, because their families have networked with each other in the past and they helped each other get ahead.
