It's unfair but the reality is there are certain groups of people who are able to say certain words without the same social backlash that other groups of people might receive for saying the same thing.

Personally speaking, if a word is derogatory then I'll try to avoid using it altogether.

If you feel it's hurtful to you, and it bothers you then I guess neither should use it.
But it would be kind of hypocritical if you don't want her to use anti-gay words when you go around dropping the f bomb the entire time.

I don't use any derogatory terms except for the ones referring to gay people, and that's only because I am one. There's the whole "the more you say something, the less meaning it has" concept, which is about my reasoning for it.

As for the ones referring to gay people being said to me/around me...go ahead. If someone is saying it jokingly, then haha I'll play along. If someone is saying it to be offensive specifically to me/gays in general...then all that shows is their lack of intelligence.

Any other derogatory ones I don't like hearing, and it makes me cringe when people say them, and then turn around and act offended when someone else does. If you're gonna say them, don't act so damn surprised when your friends start using it, too. You pick things up from each other.
