Just saw this on Facebook. It has been shared over 200,000 times! This is a sad story; RIP to the officer.

What has not been reported in the countless stories that followed, including the recent news of his $30,000 modeling contract that his agent said will help him "change his life", was that on the very same day the photo went viral the Stockton Police Department laid to rest Officer Scott Hewell. Officer Hewell was involved in a horrific crash in which the patrol car he was riding in struck a tree on the passenger side on May 28, and he died from his injuries on June 11. Officer Hewell was just 33 years old and had served with SPD for just under two years. He was survived by his parents and siblings. I'm asking for your help today in sharing this photo to get the handsome face of this fine young officer, killed in the line of duty in the early part of his career serving and protecting the citizens of the same city where this convicted felon described as "one of the most violent criminals in the Stockton area" was arrested, to go viral. Let's let the Hewell family and the members of the Stockton Police Department know that Officer Hewell's face and not that of a criminal is the one we want to remember. Thank you.

I see what they were trying to do. If you're gonna gush over some random felon at least pay your respects to this officer.

But 1. He wasn't even linked to Jeremy
2. Do you really want people gushing over someone now dead?
3. This is not how you gain sympathy why not start a fund for his family instead?

No one is glorifying or condoning Jeremy Meeks' behaviour. They're just commenting on his appearance at face value and saying "damn, that guy is HOT" because he is. It'd be the same thing as if Miranda Kerr or Gisele Bundchen never became famous models but did something illegal and their mugshots made it onto the internet. Saying people are condoning his behaviour or giving him fame when he doesn't deserve is overcomplicating it. It's literally as simple as saying "look how hot this guy is."

People used this JM situation as an opportunity to be self-righteous and judgmental towards others who were honestly just commenting on his looks...no one was condoning his criminal activity or making excuses for him (and if they were it was a joke) it didn't help him either way because he's still in jail so there's no reason to be fuming
