This is quite discussed here, but doesn't seem to be discussed fully for the people to understand why so. Therefore let's get to the bottom of this today. How much harm does it do to a career when a pop singer is CAUGHT being the second billing to another star? Everything from Gaga/Madonna since 2011 to Britney/Christina in 1999-2003 to Beyoncé and her copying scandals to Gaga/Katy going back and forth to whether it be second fiddle or swagger jacking. These are noted by the GP because they got attention, so what do they think? Do they think the second one to it is inferior? Do they look into it if they want to? do they not care but still hold it against the second fiddle? What is it?

I don't think it matter so much. No-one avoided buying Christina's records because Britney was more successful. No-one chose not to go to Beyoncé's concert because of 'copying scandals'. The general public aren't that invested in stars, they just hear their songs on the radio, buy them if they like them, buy their album if they really like them and go to their concert if they're a fan.

It's pop music. Just pop music. Pop writers aren't generally famous because of their strong songwriting skills. They're usually praised when they write a song catchy enough to become a hit. If it was someone like Regina Spektor, The Bird and the Bee or even someone like Kanye West who were "stealing lyrics" or being unoriginal, I'm sure it'd raise a few more eyebrows.

When it comes to originality, that almost doesn't exist. Pop music is particularly known for repeat trends. Madonna, Britney, Miley. Janet, Aaliyah, Ciara. Michael Jackson, Beyoncé and someone who will eventually come along and do things at that level. It's just the same thing over and over again.

Occasionally you'll get someone like Gaga who stuns the general public by bringing something to the table we see less often, but it's still either pulled from inspiration for less famous artists like Grace Jones or Roisin Murphy, cleaned up to be more radio friendly.

Beyonce's scandal hasn't effected her career at all. She's seen as a legend, and is well on her way to solidifying herself as one of the all time greats.
