Despite a huge fanbase and critical acclaim (even an Emmy!), Nickelodeon's Invader Zim faced doom and gloom from the very beginning. Nick producers were already uncomfortable with the idea of such a demented cartoon on their airwaves when the 9/11 attacks happened. With such turmoil going on in the world at the time, Nickelodeon couldn't afford to have something so apocalyptic on their network, so Invader Zim was cancelled in 2002. Nevertheless, the ill-fated show has had one of the biggest cult followings in recent memory. DVD sales have been excellent and reruns on the Nicktoons channel garnered high ratings.
