Transformers: Age of Extinction; PANNED. 17% on RT :jonny:
TRANSFORMERS PANNED WITH A SCORE OF 17% ON RT CURRENTLY

With the fourth installment in Michael Bay's blockbuster Transformers franchise, nothing is in disguise: Fans of loud, effects-driven action will find satisfaction, and all others need not apply.

Going to see this tomorrow! Very excited! You guys, read this:
Quote:
AOE has had a lot of bad reviews, 42 of them to be precise. So far, only 8 reviews have had a positive rating. But why?
Now you could say that AOE is just a bad film, and maybe you're right, but I'm not too sure about that.
Most audience reviews, meaning the reviews of ordinary people going to see the movie, have given it praise claiming that "it's the best of the series", "the robots have character this time", "the silly humor is gone", etc. Despite the praise given by these reviews, professional critics have been giving the movie bad scores, and a lot of them either do not include these praises, or state the complete opposite of them.
It almost sounds as though the critics haven't seen the film at all, and are only basing these judgements on the trailers and tv spots that have been released.
I don't believe this. They're professionals, and shouldn't be doing that kind of thing
Could it be that the audience reviewers are lying about how good/bad the film is, for whatever reason? I don't think so. Why would they lie about how good a film is?
Something doesn't add up
I think what's really going on here, is that critics are trying to send a message to Michael Bay/Ehren Kruger/Steven Spielburg/Paramount. In giving AOE scores that make it out to be worse than ROTF, these critics are deterring viewers from watching the movie which will, in turn, cause AOE to make less money than it would otherwise. Will this stop AOE from making a ****-ton of money? Probably not. Will it hurt the chances of Michael Bay returning for a fifth? Probably. Will it increase the chances of getting a straight-up reboot, rather than a continuation of the current series? Maybe.
What the critics are really saying, is that they're are tired of movies like this. The era of dumb, fun, popcorn movies is over. Or rather that it SHOULD be by now. With films such as Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Iron Man, Edge of Tomorrow, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Godzilla 2014, and X-Men: First Class coming out in the past few years, the dumb, fun, popcorn movies of the 80's, 90's, and early 2000's, have been replaced with the smart, still fun, thoughtful movies of the late 2000's and 2010's. Bay's way of directing just doesn't work for critics anymore. It still makes a HUGE amount of money, but think about it. If these movies were exactly the same as they are now, but you replaced the Transformers with normal aliens, would they make a similar profit? Probably not. The reason that it makes so much money isn't that it's good, it's because people are fans of Transformers. If these movies didn't have that, there'd probably only be one of them.
Unfortunately, their effort is more than likely going to be made in vain, because money speaks louder than words. Would we like to have a better Transformers movie series than the one we have now? Absolutely. But as long as it continues to make a significant amount of money, we aren't going to get one. The Michael Bay series is all we have, so let's all just enjoy it for what it is and go along for the ride, not as Bay Fans, G1 Fans, Animated Fans, Beast Wars Fans, or even KISS Players Fans (if you're into that), but rather as Transformers Fans
Don't take this thread as a "Bay Hate" thread. It's not, nor was it ever intended to be. I'm merely trying to make an observation on critics.
Also, the whole "Critics are biased" argument needs to stop. Everyone is biased towards something; EVERYONE. If you have a properly functioning brain, it's almost impossible to be unbiased towards something. Example: The movie fans are positively biased towards the movies. The people who don't like the movies are negatively biased towards the movies. The people who like the movies and the people who don't like the movies are biased towards each other. Etc. so on and so forth. If you have "expectations" of any kind, whether they are positive or negative, you're biased.
Just like what you like. Okay? It's not that hard, believe me

Is anyone actually surprised, though?
Don't get me wrong, I like the Transformers movies, but they were never critical darlings in any shape, form or fashion.

Saw it last night. It was so long, almost 3 hours . It was decent, better than 17%. I liked it.
But it's like... if you've seen the first three, it's not going to blow your mind or anything. Felt like more the same.

Honestly though, who cares about storyline? All I care about is saying epic robots fighting each other and a **** ton of action. Transformer movies never fail to keep me entertained, I wish Megan Fox was still in the series though

That whole series is mindless garbage for the masses. I mean, people need entertainment and fun is fun, I guess but it's hardly ever been a secret that Transformers is the pits.
