What's the furthest you've ridden your bicycle?

I occasionally ride my bike to town, about 10 miles roundtrip; but lately Im fascinated with the idea of a bike tour across the United States. Ive been reading blogs of people who've done it and watching videos, and more and more it's something I want to do.

Are any of you guys avid bicyclists, and would you ever consider doing something like that?

I somehow want to be one but I can't. We don't have much routes for cycling here. Most of the cyclist needs to ride within the urban area and it's so crowded and dangerous.

Thats too bad conditions for riding aren't so good there.

I know it'll be a challenge for me but I really want to do it. Ive begun looking for a good touring bike within my budget. Im getting into my forties and I really want to do some memorable things to look back on later on.
