Yeah, but Robots was definitely not solely a children's cartoon. There was more adult humor in that movie than Ice Age 1-4 combined.
If you've ever played Ratchet & Clank, you'd know that there is way more adult humour than both of those, just look a the titles of some of the games for example.
Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando.
Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal.
Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters
Ratchet & Clank: Quest For Booty
Have you ever played R&C? Each level has about 5 cutscenes of storytelling.
The cutscenes from the first game combined are like over an hour 20 minutes more and it would be movie length.
& the newer games had more.
Ratchet & Clank games are just a huge story, and you just play the gameplay inbetween.
It's not like like Mario, Crash etc, where you get a basic story outline but you just play the levels to reach the final stage.
You'd be ignorant R&C games aren't story orientated. I mean check out the length of the plot description for the first game (which has the smallest story of all the main games):
Quote:
On Planet Veldin, Ratchet is working on his ship however he is missing an important component: the robotic ignition system. On Planet Quartu, an assembly line of robots are manufactured. The machine malfunctions for a small brief moment and it creates Clank. The curious and intelligent robot searches for clues and finds an Infobot. Horrified by its contents, Clank proceeds to take a pipeline to escape. He enters a ship and flies away, only to have two enemy ships follow him. The enemy ships attack Clank, causing the ships engine to disengage, sending it plummeting into Veldin. Curious, Ratchet sees a ship crash into his homeworld and sets out to investigate. At the crash site, Clank, now deactivated, is found by Ratchet. Clank eventually awakens and asks for the location Captain Qwark, the hero of the universe, to help save the galaxy from Chairman Drek, whose world is becoming toxic, making it uneasy for him or his race, the Blarg, to live on, so he extracts portions of other planets to his, making a new world. Ratchet agrees to help in exchange for Clank's assistance as a robotic ignition system to allow his ship to fly to Novalis
Clank's real name is an uncommon series of numbers which is easily forgotten, so Ratchet 'accidentally' tlits the ship which allows the robot to clink. This is how he got his name, Clank. The duo arrive on Planet Novalis and they start to investigate. First they meet a Plumber who offers them 500 bolts for coordinates to Aridia, a dark-unlively world. Further exploration sees the duo meet a Chairman of Metropolis who offers them coordinates to the latter's homeworld and a Courier Ship. They fly to Metropolis, and complete an obstacle course and are rewarded a Swingshot by Helga, Qwark's tranier, a gadget capabale of swinging towards targets. Next, Ratchet and Clank meet Big Al, a robotic 'guy' of a 'nerd'. Captain Qwark originally was here shooting a commercial which Clank believes, however Big Al puts him off. Clank, however, receives a Heli-Pack. They further explore Metropolis and find an Infobot that has coordinates to Eudora. It turns out Chairman Drek's (the antagonist of the game) right-hand man, Constable Lieutenant is there about to extract trees for Drek's world. The duo fly to Eudora only to find Lieutenant drop coordinates to BTS (Blarg Tactical Station). At the Station, the duo meet an inventor, who sells a pair of Grindboots to them, these are capable of grinding on thin long rails. Clank also journey's outside the air-lock to locate a Hydrodisplacer. The duo then head to a dormant section of the ship where they find a red button. Pressing it ushers the ship into self-destruct, but they manage to escape with coordinates to Rilgar.
On Rilgar, Ratchet and Clank find Qwark in his trailer. Quark persuades them to complete an obstacle course on Umbris to prove they are the greatest heroes. After completing the course, Qwark turns on them. The plot thickens, and Qwark reveals he's reveals he"s the official spokesperson for Chairman Drek. Qwark frees a Blargian Snagglebeast which fights Ratchet and Clank, but they overpower it. Afterwards they find a new ship with coordinates to Batalia where a Commando requires immediate assistance. They arrive on Batalia and shoot down the missile machines and are rewarded the Sonic Summoner and coordinates to Orxon. A toxic factory with no air in which only Clank can explore. He finds some Magneboots and an Infobot leading to Pokitaru. On Pokitaru, some toxic sludge is dumped on its oceans. The resort owner hitches a deal with Ratchet and Clank and allows them to pilot the fighters plane to take out the toxic sludge machinery in exchange for an O2 Mask, capable of breathing in areas that are void of oxygen. They return to Orxon and chase after an Infobot that has coordinates to Hoven. On Hoven Drek is launching a Deplanatizer however Ratchet and Clank arrive on time and impede it. They find an infobot with coordinates to a space station, Olantis Orbit, which shows that Drek was last seen there.
The duo goes there and find Qwark and attacks them but they shoot him down sending Qwark plummeting down to Olantis. They arrive on Olantis with a new ship and Ratchet finds a mechanic who gives him an Infobot leading to Quartu. On Quartu, (this happens to be the factory where Clank was created) Clank meets his Mother and they receive another Infobot to Veldin (Ratchet's homeworld). Drek is launching a Deplanatizer from there and planning to destroy it. Ratchet and Clank fly to Veldin for a final showdown. There, Drek reveals that it was him that polluted his own homeworld in the first place, so that he can build a new world to profit from. They take Drek down and accidentally activates the Deplanatizer sending Drek up in the air in his homeplanet and destroying into smithereens. One part of the comet causes the duo to fall but Clank hold on a ledge but falls. Clank heli-packs down with Ratchet. Clank's arm appears to have broken. Ratchet says "Hey tin can, we...uh still need to fix that arm". So they walk up the bridge waiting for another adventure.
After the credits, Ratchet and Clank are in their garage on Veldin watching a Captain Qwark commercial about a Personal Hygienator. Ratchet then commands Clank to "turn it off".
& that's just a brief summery that misses several minor stories such as the invasion of mutants etc.
