Digimon and Pokemon both have RPG games that are incredibly similar.
Digimon just went into 3D RPG (2007) quicker than Pokemon (2013).
But both have 3D party games (Rumble Arena, Stadium) etc. and both have 2D RPG games that are similar (Every Pokemon game before X&Y, Digimon World) and 3D RPG (Digimon Story, X&Y).
They are very similar in terms of games. Digimon just chose to abandon 2D RPG quicker than Pokemon did.
