Just wondering - has using ATRL changed your perception of the gay community? With the ability to communicate with a range of people from all walks of life and locations in the world who identify as LGBT, do you think you have learned more about them from using this site?

Have you gotten closer to the community after joining in with the stanning, or been put off by the thirst and daddy issues?

My own opinion: Even though I always knew I was gay, my Dad's opinions and growing up in a village in the north of England led me to believe that all gays were attention seeking and promiscuous and effeminate - which led to me feeling like an outcast from the community and probably caused a lot of internalised homophobia that created issues for myself in later life

But since joining ATRL (read it religiously but don't post much so be gentle with me ) I've come to realise that the LGBT community has many different shades to it, like all people in the world. I have spent many hours reading the threads and crying with laughter and it's made me accept more about my own sexuality and my right to be myself

So that's my two cents, let's hear your stories - Good or bad...

i've honestly become less hostile towards more feminine gays as a result of time spent on the internet, ATRL being a part of that.

In real life too, or just on the Internet?

definitely in real life too. up until maybe last year or so, i used to feel that "feminine" gays were perpetuating a negative stereotype that i felt i was often clustered with, and that made me act abrasively towards them, etc. i think starting college has definitely helped me change my mind about that too.

ATRL helped me become comfortable with my sexuality I guess. I really didn't have anywhere else to talk about things that specifically had to deal with gay stuff. I haven't met a lot of people on here but knowing there are people like me is really cool.

Same here - after I moved to London and was around more open minded people I started to realise that by hating certain attitudes, I was only perpetuating that stereotype and discrimination

I learned that gays are thirsty and ****ty

TBH it's changed nothing. I know I'm new but I obviously had to lurk for ages before being able to sign up.

But what is your opinion then? Good or bad?

It didn't change much, but it's the only way I can communicate with fellow sistrens. All of my friends are straights, I know some gays but I despise them.
