Speaking about other iconic characters who could appear, Heller told Entertainment Weekly that The Joker is also likely to pop up, though the character has not yet been cast. "He's the crown jewel of the Batman villains," Heller said. "He will be brought in with great care and a lot of thought."

I'm not. Part of The Joker's mystique is that he is an unexplainable force of evil. Even in the comic books, any attempts to explain who he was before he became The Joker comes with a disclaimer that the origin story is most likely total bull****. Trying to give him a definitive origin story is suicide, and I bet if they try comic book fans everywhere are going to consider the entire show non-canonical anyway.

I feel like his origin story would either be as simple as "he's ****ing crazy and always has been" or it would be way too disturbing to be able to captivate into a story for a big audience to understand.

no, part of his allure is that there's no explanation for him... him just being crazy without his crazy being caused by anything matches up with how erratic and unpredictable he is

The entire show is non-canonical already though.. It doesn't literally take place in the comics universe, no tv show does.

But I hope they don't. The amount of wannabe fanboys who claimed the joker was make-up and scars after the "realistic" Nolan movie...

It's not focused on The Joker, but they are going to bring him in at some point. The reasoning is that if the show is super-successful and goes on for like 7 or 8 seasons like Smallville did, it would be really weird if they never showed The Joker and just danced around the issue.

What I'm worried about is that several origin stories imply that Batman is directly responsible for the creation of The Joker, especially the stories where he is the Red Hood and dives into a vat of chemicals. If the show is about young Bruce Wayne before he becomes the Bat, they're going to have to use a completely different story if they want to use The Joker in their series.
