In response to the confused people... The Original Trilogy – which consisted of the first three films to be released – actually comes after the events of the newer films. The newer films were prequels. The Original Trilogy consists of the fourth, fifth, and sixth episodes of the saga. You could really start with the Prequel Trilogy or the Original Trilogy. If you're really clueless, I would say start with the Original Trilogy and then watch the Prequel Trilogy, but be aware that its events come before the events that take place in the Original Trilogy. Does that make sense?
When I was a little kid I remember I thought the first film in the Prequel Trilogy was a sequel to the last film in the Original Trilogy, so I was really confused. But if you don't know anything about the films, I would say watch them in this order:
Original Trilogy (Episodes 4, 5, & 6):
1. A New Hope
2. The Empire Strikes Back
3. Return of the Jedi
Prequel Trilogy (Episodes 1, 2, & 3):
4. The Phantom Menace
5. Attack of the Clones
6. Revenge of the Sith
