People obsessed with Youtubers
Do you find it at all strange when people like youtube vloggers ...a little too much?
Example: People who show up to the airport to see Tyler Oakley.
Many youtubers share their everyday life with their audience, some of which manage to gather a huge following and "fans", creating a strange balance of knowledge with themselves and their audience.
It's even more peculiar when the youtuber has no apparent skill or talent, so unlike having a huge respect for their given craft (makeup vlogs, fashion vlogs, comedy skills..) they have an admiration for their daily ...life?
They are a step down from reality tv stars, as they more often then not don't see the same kind of financial benefit for doing this, or the regal distance more traditional celebrity gives.
One of the hosts of an old podcasts I listened to mentioned that she had been stalked by a crazy fan, which was a disturbing shock to her, being an extremely normal/average person, getting stalked by someone who knows way too much about her.
The risks of becoming attached is so much higher because these people are so much more attainable than typical celebrity, which makes it even more creepy.
Would love to hear your point of view on this.

I find it odd.
The fact that my cousins sit on Youtube all night and watch these Youtube Celebrities sit in front of their laptops and do mostly nothing is beyond me. This generation . At least before Youtube celebrity became a thing, people would make videos of themselves singing or doing something interesting. Now it's just...nothing.
I guess they are a better kind of celebrity than the traditional though, because they are usually a lot more human.

Obsessing over anyone in general is stupid, but look what website we're on.

Which is why it can be dangerous, because you have a false sense of friendship/connection with them that they do NOT share with you.
Which makes stalking/obsession possible on an entirely new level.

I love watching a ton of YouTubers, but not really as much as before.
But yeah, it's REALLY annoying. I actually left one of my friends because everytime we would have a plan or something she'd just blow it off to watch stuff in her YouTube subscription box. Like gorl, I don't have 40 minutes to wait while you watch a long Shaytards + CTXFC vlog, Tyler Oakley challenge and Joey Graceffa embarrassing himself.

Not really. People do build real friendships online nowadays, this can be possible for Youtubers as well. If they don't want to be friendly online, just don't interact.
I think anytime you put yourself out there you run the risk of have someone obsess with you.

Yes. I have a friend who spends all her free time on these YouTubers and is a huge stan and I on it.
None of them seem entertaining to me, except Communitychannel.
But then I remember how I'm the same, but with popstars

Everything you said. I don't understand this Youtube obsession at all.. even the ones with "crafts" like games, make-up or fashion, basically do nothing, they just play a game or buy a product. How is that remotely interesting?
But the "vloggers" are definitely the worst. Youtube is a mess but everything is a mess nowadays so I'm not surprised, they do what they do, have fun with it but I'm not here for it

Yet we know very little about our faves daily lives, which gives them a regal distance from us.
A vlogger with relatively big success coincidentally lives down the street from me, and she left her biggg window open one day and I recognized her rather unique wall that she vlogs in front of while strolling down the street. Now I know where she lives, if I was some crazy stan, it could be a mess and she clearly doesn't have the means to hire the same kind of security our faves can, which is my point, it is celebrity without the financial perks, yet all the negatives.

I watch Youtubers sometimes, not as much as I used to, but I would never go see them at the airport or whatever. They're just normal people.

I agree, but the effort in becoming a YouTube star is much less and at least they aren't scrutinized by the media.
They do have perks tho, like these concerts and fansigning tours that my friend always goes to.

Too true Easily one of the most annoying ones out there. Still fascinated at how anyone can find him funny and actually subscribe to him. The only time I can tolerate him is when he's doing a collab with someone good.
