Yes and she's coming back to slay

As successful as her solo career was, at the time and even now it never felt as though Gwen Stefani was ever really embraced as the pop juggernaut that she is. I think it stemmed from some people feeling as though they prefer her to be No Doubt Gwen as opposed to a pop glam princess but the funny thing about that is that I don't think her solo career and her No Doubt career were all that much different in spirit and partially in sound. She maintained her fashionable aesthetic and her taste for new wave. She just got to elaborate more on the bubblegum aspect of her sound rather than including guitars and drums.

I'm going to call a spade a spade and say the second album wasn't nearly as good as the first. It was a little dry of creativity although it did have some gems. Had she kept going maybe she could've redeemed herself. We'll never know. Hopefully these rumors of a new album are true. If she collabs with Pharrell again she better not make some retro-disco-happy nonsense. I hate Pharrells new aesthetic. And honestly what better time than now for Gwen to be a pop star again? Its all about electro these days and shes always been about electro.

Perhaps, but Gwen has never had the drive or inspiration to do that. She only writes from her life experiences (and only when she is very inspired, often from negative situations), which is why her musical output has been so small despite No Doubt forming way back in 1986/7. All she ever wanted was a family, which she has now, so she's very content and has little to draw on when it comes to songwriting.

So I'm interested in seeing if her new solo album will have a lot of songs written by others, although I hope it won't. I doubt it will smash either way.

While Gwen also has the talent, charisma, stage presence, "X Factor" etc. for it, I also don't think she would ever be able to draw media attention the way other "queens of pop" (ie. Madonna, Britney, Gaga) have. She's very low-key and private... I'm still shocked she's doing the Voice, tbh.

I think part of the thirst for new music is that she only released two albums of high quality. It's that much more anticipated for a comeback. Same goes with Fergie who only released one album. I hope both aren't afraid to release something that may not live up to their critically acclaimed albums.
