Katy Perry: I am a healthy percentage left and right brained, so I can dream dreams and be very pragmatic, and that has served me well. Everything has to pass through my eyes and ears, but I think that's why in a time of short-span, pop-up pop careers I've had a longer one than most people would bet on.

She's just saying everyone thought IKaG was a novelty song and that she would be a one hit wonder. No one imagined she's be around for 6 years dominating the Pop music scene.
I'm a Katy stan now but in 2008 even I thought she would disappear after IKaG but then Hot n Cold came out and I knew she had potential to stay in the business.
