She said: "I don't do that, so that's my saving grace. When you start living in that world, and doing that, you start I guess feeling raped."
Asked if she felt that strongly about the issue, Theron said: "Well, you know when it comes to your son and your private life. Maybe that's just me. Some people might relish all that stuff but there are certain things in my life that I think of as very sacred and I am very protective over them.
"I don't always win that war but as long as I don't have to see that stuff or read that stuff or hear that stuff then I can live with my head in a clear space, which is probably a lot healthier than living in that dark room."
One Twitter user said: "She should try telling that to a real rape victim," and another said: "How stupid to comment about press intrusion the same as being raped. Makes my blood boil!!"
Is she trivializing the torture and torment of rape by minimizing it and comparing it to press intrusion? Discuss below:
that is a really awful comparison
she has no idea what she is talking about
How do you know?

What an insensitive remark! Especially to the women/men/children who are actually victims of rape and carry lifelong lasting mental scars they can never escape from.
Oh boohoo ... Since the dawn of social media, every tom, dick and harry has a soapbox to stand on. It was a harmless figurative statement. If something ,like this sets a rape victim off then they obviously never dealt with their episode. We can't be expected to walk on eggshells all of the time.
People really need to stop casually misusing the word rape. If you're not being forcefully penetrated it is not rape and should not be called so because that is horribly offensive to survivors of actual rape.
She was trying to say that she feels violated, especially when it comes to her children.
Poor choice of words, sure, but there's no need to drag her over this. There are more important issues to worry about, such as people who blame victims in rape cases.
