A Finnish website offering portraits of post-masectomy women has crashed after a plug from the non-profit Born This Way foundation, which was founded by Lady Gaga. The website, which features breast cancer sufferers’ swimsuit pictures, has crashed twice after the foundation posted a link on its Facebook page.
The exhibition is currently at the Photography Museum in Helsinki, and the English-language website has gathered attention from far and wide. The Born This Way foundation also posted a link to the website for its 275,000 Facebook followers, after which the page crashed.
“We’ve had contact from twenty-odd media organizations all over the world,” said Vilma Metteri, who is part of the group behind the project.
“We are really surprised that this reached so many people even though breast cancer is not a new issue,” said Metteri. “This really touches people who aren’t usually touched by art, and who don’t usually attend traditional exhibitions.”
