The Best of the Best Week 3: Who's Jimmy Waiting For?
As I said before, this week is STACKED. We have two dance-pop queens, an up-and-coming emo/punk hybrid, the decade's most famous THE band, and a 90s folk singer. We also have someone who's importance to the music community wasn't felt until she passed.
Not to leave it on a downer - we also have the skankiest band of losers to have four top ten singles!
Kylie Minogue, performing In Your Eyes
Gwen Stefani, performing What Ya Waiting For?
Vanessa Carlton, performing Who's to Say?
Aaliyah, performing What If?
Paramore], performing When It Rains
Papa Roach, performing Forever
The Pussycat Dolls, performing Don't Cha
Kate Nash, performing We Get On
M.I.A., performing Jimmy
Jewel, performing Again and Again
the Strokes, performing Someday
Post your comments on all eleven songs in this thread, and then send me your rankings in PM BY SUNDAY NIGHT. REMEMBER, 11 = FAVORITE SONG, 1 = LEAST FAVORITE SONG.
And, the eleven artists playing next week are:
Rihanna
Radiohead
My Chemical Romance
Bjork
Usher
Alicia Keys
Destiny's Child
Arcade Fire
Snow Patrol
System of a Down
Death Cab for Cutie
TOP FOURS DUE BY SATURDAY AT MIDNIGHT. SEND THEM LATER, AND THEY WON'T BE ACCEPTED!

Kylie Minogue, performing In Your Eyes
Disco all the way, she's the queen of dance music, and this song proves it, the beat is awesome and her voice is always sweet and fitting.
Gwen Stefani, performing What Ya Waiting For?
This song was surprisingly good and so unexpected since it was different from her previous work, i still like it.
Vanessa Carlton, performing Who's to Say?
Never heard this song before, glad i did, she's really underrated.
Aaliyah, performing What If?
The queen of queens, this song is ****ing AWESOME. Hidden track from Aaliyah (Album), this song is hot, fire, the best of the bests. Glad to see im not the only one who loves it.
Paramore, performing When It Rains
An ok song, im diggin it. Way better than their singles, which in my opinion were disappointing for the most part.
Papa Roach, performing Forever
Good rock song, they've been delivering good music since a while now, too bad they haven't been that succesful anymore.
The Pussycat Dolls, performing Don't Cha
At first it was hard for me to hear this song since i heard Tori Amalaze's version first and i thought this sounded like a bad rip off. And even though this made them who they are i still don't like it that much
Kate Nash, performing We Get On
****ING BOW. Making covers or original songs her style is unique and incredible amazing, she's an awesome artist.
M.I.A., performing Jimmy
Talking about unique, MIA is unique no doubts, she sounds very indian and i love it, specially on this song. Well, she never disappoints and it seems like finally she will get the attention she deserves with Paper planes.
Jewel, performing Again and Again
The country crossover didn't change my love for her and this song is a beautiful masterpiece i will never forget.
the Strokes, performing Someday
Meh, nothing special

In You Eyes - I was young when this came out, but I'm sure I knew it all by heart back then. Its very catchy and even though it is lyrically crap, the song still emerges as one her finest singles to date. It is, however, lifeless when compared to some of her other songs.
What You Waiting For? - Madonna may have gone "Tick Tick Tock" with two singles, but neither Hung Up or 4 Minutes use it as effectively as this epic song. The intro is misleading in a great way, and even though the song is bananas at times it is still one of the most original songs of the decade.
Who's to Say -

And who's to say that this is not our love?

'Cause they'd bleed before you

Nowadays, love songs are either incredibly cheesy or Disney-ish, so this song is like a breath of fresh air to the genre. The lyrics are also very fitting especially the verses in the quotation. Definitely one of the best songs of the week.
What If - No. I don't like it at all. The chorus makes me wanna fall asleep and even though I think it has a mediocre guitar-riff, it still stands out as a RnB track. But still, no matter what anyone says, this songs is far from great.
When it Rains - When I first heard Riot! this was one of my favourites, but even though its good some nice lyrics and a good beat, it pales when compared to far superior "We Are Broken" which in my opinion features a better set of lyrics and is more Paramore-ish. To be honest, I always confuse When It Rains for some Avril song.
Forever - Its not bad, but its boring and uninspired in my opinion. Too average, and in terms of originality this songs ranks at the very bottom. Once again, I hope the Top 3 will be at least marginally better than this lame effort.
Don't Cha - This song was great when it came out, and its one of those songs which is inescapable because everybody is able to sing to it. Compared to the absolute rubbish "When I Grow Up" this is actually a very funky track. Its a little far too commercial for my taste for my opinion, but still everything on this song works well, even Busta who I usually find very average.
We Get On - It's okay, but just ok. Even though Kate has a very sweet voice, on this song its a little too monotonous...But then all of a sudden, at about 2:40, the songs starts becoming more and more aggressive especially lyrically, and this is what makes this otherwise average song very endurable.
Jimmy - I'm still new to MIA, but even though she has quite a distinctive style she is still very listenable. This song has some excellent strings and its very bollywood-ish, but the part when she starts saying "Jimmy" is appalling. However I admit that this song is quite fresh and very funky.
Again and Again - I can't stand country, but this song in quite good, even though though it is too repetitive in my opinion.
Someday - The lead singer's voices are annoying and the song is nothing special either. However, I wouldn't call it bad because after a lame opening, the song picks up and the overall result isn't as bad as I had expected initially.

Huh? Surely, they're not more popular than THE White Stripes.
I'll do my judging later, but I will say that this week wasn't nearly as good as last week, though the best songs are up there with last week's best, though not quite.
Oh, and Week Four is RIDICULOUS.

Ahhh..............not "When It Rains". I should have been allowed to vote 10x...I could have named 20 tracks better than that.

They came from an album that was released in 1999. Same with Christina from the first week, with I Turn to You and Come on Over Baby. This game is only about works that come from albums released 2000 and after - but if we do a 90s game, SMN and Jumpin Squared will be eligible!

In Your Eyes - I'd consider this the precursor to Rihanna's Don't Stop The Music. The beat makes the song strangely hypnotic and it's just a fun song. I'm not a huge Kylie fan, but I'd put this as one of her best.
What You Waiting For - I love how stupid and insane this song is, I could listen to it on repeat for quite awhile and never get bored. Definitely the stand-out in Gwen's portfolio fo solo work, but I think some new No Doubt has been a long-time coming.
Who's To Say - This song is perfect in so many ways, especially the lyrics, where Vanessa never seems to fail to impress me. It's just timeless.
What If? - The vocals are great, but the beat drowns her out and is just a little ****ing obnoxious. I think the guitar was given too much power and it creates more "noise" than an actual song.
When It Rains - It confuses me why any label would see That's What You Get as a better choice for a single than this song. I'm still pulling for this song, although I think the Riot! era is over.
Forever - ****ing outstanding, I wish they were remembered for stuff like this instead of Scars. The chorus just comes at you and you can't forget it.
Don't Cha - I've hated this song since first lesson. No talent, no class,
We Get On - It sounds like it came straight out of a Broadway musical. In other words: I would probably kill someone if they played this when I woke up. It's just way too light for my taste, I prefer songs that are darker the whole way through.
Jimmy - I love this bitch, she's so different from everyone out there and not afraid to be an innovator, yet she still keeps herself grounded in her heritage. I really do hope Paper Planes isn't the end of her success in America.
Again and Again - Jewel and a guitar are a match made in heaven. She can make some real masterpieces like this one. I think it's a classic that should be heard for decades to come.
Someday - It's by no means a bad song, but it's just not my style.

Bart, I'll simply simplify this week
In Your Eyes - Sexy, song
What You Waiting For - Best of her solo stuff, but most underrated
Who's To Say - So-so to be honest
What If? - Don't wanna be hating but, boring song.
When It Rains - 1 listen, decent song.
Forever - One of their most underrated songs IMO.
Don't Cha - Catchy, but now played out
We Get On - One of the most overlooked artists, so she's cute.
Jimmy - I am not as much of an MIA fan like most here. I just don't like this.
Again and Again - One of her best of the 2000s releases
Someday - Pretty good

Week 3: I simply like this week, IMO the best so far... Now, let's see why...
In Your Eyes: Hot dance song!! Though it wasn't in my Top 4, this is one of the best songs on Fever, which is most her best album (or at least this decade)... The beat is really cool...
What You Waiting For?: I love almost all the Gwen solo material, this song was the first try to hit it.... Has a very hookig beat and definitely this one of he only Gwen songs that don't get bored to hear again & again....Though, I have to say that ballads are really better (Wonderful Life & 4 In The Morning )
Who's To Say: I love how are so mature the lyrics on this song.... That's why I love her... She has a beatiful voice...
What If: Good but the background guitars makes this song unlistenable in some points....
When It Rains: I'm still mad that this wasn't released, this song has potential.... I'm just glad that this made it I love it <3333 though I have to agree that We Are Broken is above better....
Don't Cha: First of all, I'm not really fan of PCD but I like some of their songs... The only thing that matters in this type of songs are the beat because this has nothing offer in lyrics or theme... So nice beat...
Forever: Wow, this song was a really great surprise to me, I'm addicted to it.... Honestly, when I hear Papa Roach, I was sure that was going to be so dark & so grounding... Don't hate me, but I'm not fan of hardcore metal songs... This song has really good sound... Great choice this week...
We Get On: OK, is not bad but this really is the least song I played of MOB... Yes, I have to say this song is a bit monotone...
Jimmy: M.I.A. was definitely the best new artist last year, she's an artist that knows how to create her sound, unique in every song she makes... This is so catchy...
Again And Again: I have to say that she has a pretty good voice... This song has a good sound.. I might really check her song since I like this and I Do
Someday: I like some of The Strokes but this is just ok, nothing specail about.... But yes, I have to say that in this the lead singer voice sounds a bit annoying... Honestly, the least song I Liked
