Nicki clarifies the "pop" question, talks new album
Quote:
While a release date hasn’t been set, she assures her fans it will be this year. “When it comes, it’ll be perfect,” she told DJ Flexx during the interview. “[Fans] will get crazy, if at a certain point this album doesn’t come out. I will have to hide from my fans. They will lynch me,” she jokes with a laugh.
This album, she says, is her most personal to date. “For a long time people have gotten to know me but the world doesn’t really know me,” she clarifies, before continuing, “I feel like my story should be told now… I want to have a platform to talk about it [and] I think the album is the best platform for it.”
Fans got a taste of her upcoming album with her latest single “Pills n Potions,” which she says is about how self-medicating the world so they don’t have to deal with reality. “Sometimes you think back and [wonder] ‘What’s really going on, what’s bothering me.’ We mask what’s bothering us,” she says about the song. It’s about having a person in your life and saying “You may have wronged me and hurt me but I’m still having the love I have for you,” she explains.
Don’t expect her new album to be a slew of dance-worthy pop song like “Super Bass” and “Starships.” Minaj is working on her authentic hip-hop sound but unlike what many media outlets say, she doesn’t want to steer clear of the pop genre.
“I didn’t say I didn’t want to do pop music,” she clarifies. “This album definitely won’t have dance music. Everything, whether pop or hip hop, will be authentic. I feel like people won’t care what label or genre.”

She always said the album would be Pink Friday meets the Re-Up plus New. People just obviously didn't understand that she meant Dance music like Starships exc. wouldn't be on there.

What's the difference if she raps in dance songs like Super Bass and Starships? Pop is pop.

Dance Pop was the problem with PF:RR.
"Super Bass" wasn't dance pop, "Starships" was.

It clearly wasn't the problem, loooooooooooooooool. Starships isn't really dance-pop either, its electropop with Europop chorus.

Cool. We'll all be checking it out regardless, Nicki. Why waste your time addressing this stuff?
Write, record and release what you want to. Break the chains.

But I wouldn't believe Nicki anyway. There will be dance music on the album, even if only one or two tracks or on the deluxe. It's what made her international career and the negative reaction PnP has got in the UK is a concern. Most people find it boring tbh, and expected something housey.

I can only imagine your reaction when she said "no Dance". Oh well, you can't always be right, I guess. At least she's still doing some Pop(-influenced) songs.

Not really. I don't want her doing dance music this era because I want some big ass dance/disco/EDM album next year. She's not a dumbass.
But reality is she needs a couple tracks people outside urban actually want, to cover her ass a little in case they need a hit this era.
