racism towards Asians gets a pass for some reason, imagine if he'd said something equivalent about black people
Many people in that thread, more people than I would have thought, were giving that tweet a pass. I feel as if the joke was about Black people, y'all would have gone in on him.
The stereotypical joke about Black people eating watermelon was seen as racist, but the stereotypical joke about Asians eating dogs gets a pass?
Why is this? Why does racism against Asians seem less offensive than racism against, say, Black people (since that is what people on here mostly get riled up about.)? It seems us Asians always get overlooked in these racism issues. Or am I wrong?
It's because Asians aren't victimized in society so there is less sensitivity to forms of racism. I mean have you ever been to a top arts school? They kind of kick everyone's ass.
We are overlooked but I mean there's nothing we can do. I notice a majority of us ignore comments like that in real life and keep it moving, it's not that we agree but we just don't care enough to respond so people think it's okay to keep at it. At least for me, that was the case.
I think racism towards any race other than black people is overlooked due to the horrible history of slavery etc I'm not justifying it but unfortunately thats the way it is

Wrong. There is something Asian Americans can do and that is to raise their voice against these comments. Anyways I think everyone should be aware of any form of racial prejudices and not simply in their own "face" because if you only focus on your own then that becomes racist in itself
I think about this a lot. You hear all the time about the mistreatment of blacks, the unfair laws, them being taken from their homes to be slaves to whites. Yes, that shouldn't have happened at all, and blacks have every right to be mad about that, but I feel like it completely dwarves the injustices Asians faced, like the Japanese being put in camps literally just because of how they looked. You NEVER hear people talk about that.
When I was learning about it, I felt disgusted...not only because of what happened, but it because it took me so long to learn about it in school. We learned about racism against blacks from an early age. I guess we can only focus on the injustices of one group at a time.
This is extremely true and is a huge part of the problem. Asians have basically been erased from mainstream American culture.
