Most critics said this was a mistake because Duff’s fans didn’t like this type of music and she should stick to what worked for her. The fans proved them wrong when the album debuted at #3 on the Billboard charts.
I could make a track-by-track review but it would make no sense since all the tracks are simple perfect. The whole album showcased a more mature side of Hilary that we’ve never seen before. She was sexy on “Stranger” and “With Love”, she was vindictive on “Play With Fire” and “Gypsy Woman” (which was allegedly written about her father’s mistress), she was also heart-broken on “I Wish” and “Happy”; and many other faces where shown throughout the track list.
Duff co-wrote every song on the album but one (Outside of You). She really gave the fans a look into her brain.
And the sound of the album is simply crazy good. Let’s imagine the album was released today. I believe the sound is still current and it would slay on the charts.
People never gave Hilary Duff the chance that she deserved because of where she came from. But she was truly a trendsetter and a trailblazer.
Lets hope she proves the haters wrong with her upcoming album!
