Critics Praise JLaw's Mystique in New X-Men Movie
SLAYING even as a X-MEN Character
Quote:
"Lawrence, as expected, is magnificent, the pain and anguish of being a perennial outsider is etched on her face throughout (even through the blue make-up)."

Quote:
Lawrence honours increased screen-time with emotional conviction, wounded eyes speaking volumes. Indeed, old and new cast-members shine through the screen-crowd. More McKellen would have been nice but Stewart monologues magnificently, Michael Fassbender relishes ’70s Magneto’s cruel cool, Dinklage makes Trask more than a ’tache-twirling tyrant and Hugh Jackman’s sardonic Logan never gets old (and he has a 20-year-old’s bum).

At the core of Days of Future Past is a quartet of very strong performances from McAvoy, Fassbender, Jackman and Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique, here given a more significant role in what is the best use of the character to date.

....But this movie belongs to Jackman and Lawrence....
Switching from her honorable Hunger Games heroine into badass mode with supreme ease, Lawrence is sensational, whether slinking around in Mystique's body-hugging blue reptilian skin, displaying the shape-shifter's balletic fight skills or adopting seductive human form. Her romantic friendship with Charles, stretching back to their childhoods, adds poignancy to Mystique's struggle

Quote:
Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, and Michael Fassbender instead act as a trio of leads, each dealing with their own issues and Peter Dinklage’s Trask is a successful if somewhat limited villain for them. Lawrence’s Mystique is really the character who matters the most in the film and now the rumors of a spin-off with the actress makes more sense than ever.

Jennifer Lawrence looks especially striking in her revealing blue Avatar-like body paint. Her shape shifting is seamlessly achieved

It’s pretty clever how the story manages to make the movie’s biggest stars – particularly Lawrence, who had not yet done Hunger Games or won an Oscar when she signed on to star in three X-Men films – integral to the plot

Amy Nicholson, The Village Voice:
Quote:
America's sweetheart Jennifer Lawrence truly can do anything. In the course of three months, she's managed to graciously lose an Oscar (her third nomination in four years), swan above the mansplaining condescension of a male pundit who tsk-tsked her for getting drunk in public, and burst into the summer blockbuster X-Men: Days of Future Past as a politicized '70s soul sister grimly fighting for mutant equality by any means necessary. It's no coincidence that in one scene where she embarrasses herself before a crowd of normals, her shapeshifter changes her skin from blue to black and holds her head high under the weight of a righteous afro.

Cinema Chords:
"Jennifer Lawrence’s portrayal of Mystique is brilliant. Not only does she manage to outshine Rebecca Romain’s performance but she remains true to the character really making it her own."

X-Men: Days of Future Past Review | Cinema Chords
Quote:
With flame-eyed resolve and tripwire reflexes, Lawrence is amusingly matter-of-fact as the ultimate quick-change artist. She’s also honest and subtle as an incomplete adult who has run out of father figures and can’t find anyone to trust. The fate of the planet rests on Mystique’s blue shoulders, and Lawrence soars to the occasion. She inhabits the role so fully that her moments of doubt set off seismic tremors.

Jackman, Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and especially McAvoy give extraordinary performances that root the requisite blockbuster action in deep, resonant emotions.

]Not to say that anyone should tune out a scene between Lawrence and Fassbender, only the two of the most alluring actors currently working in the business. (Note to the dazzling Lawrence: Sitting in the makeup chair all day for that blue body paint was totally worth it

the major character arcs go to the young Xavier, and Mystique, which is appropriate considering how Jennifer Lawrence's star has risen since she last played the part
|
Lawrence perfectly conveys her inner struggle, while also acquitting herself very nicely in a number of good hand-to-hand scraps, which are well-choreographed. [/QUOTE]

Fassbender and Lawrence in particular are incredibly engaging as the rogue mutants whose blinding rage prevents them from seeing the consequences of their actions

Lawrence is able to maintain dignity while running around naked and painted blue. She’s a gorgeous, kick-throwing Manchurian Candidate.

Lawrence takes to her amplified role nimbly —it's hard to imagine anyone better suited to the part.

For scene-stealing, the prize goes to Jennifer Lawrence, whose shape-shifting, blue-skinned Mystique is a match for any man or mutant, including Beast, her buddy in blue, played by Lawrence's off-screen love, Nicholas Hoult.

I wish Rebecca Romijin could have been in it too though, she did a great Mystique.

Can't wait for this movie. It might snatch Spiderman's wig. It currently holds 94% on RT. JLaw is an amazing actress. I wish to see her more in an emotional movie like Winter's Bone.

Slay
JLaw can turn anything into gold
And yet ATRL trashed her over the first (transparent) Mystique ...

I kind of get the vibe form her too lol
but if the $$ is right im sure she would do a Mystique movie especially now that the heads at FOX are seriously considering a Gambit film after Apocalypse.

a gambit movie ? are you SERIOUS ???? :rip
IDK she signed for 3 movies back in 2011,as I said, she doesn't seem too invested in the franchise to do more x-men movies after apocalypse (2016 ).
if they offer her money like Robert Downey Jr. gets for Iron Man,then she would be crazy to not agree on it.but it's all specualation. if they do the mystique movie at all.

The movie is basically about her. Expect to see 3/4's of the movie be about Mystique. Loved her in it. Great performance.
