Is katy Perry heading for a similar career to Madonna?
While Madonna's career is unprecedented and no one in existence (before or after her birth) has been able to match or surpass it and it's extremely unlikley (considering no one ever has) that no one ever will, it's not unreasonable to suggest that a pop girl will follow the same path and achieve a degree of longevity.
I think, this person will be
Katy Perry.
Katy Tells L'UOMO VOGUE
Quote:
I think Madonna, especially in the beginning of her career when she was laying the foundation, was evolving every single time and giving a new visual and a new idea to the public. She kept everybody interested because you never knew what she was going to do next, but whatever she delivered was a solid product. I just hope to be the same. I hope to continually make people interested and hopefully in 10 years look back and have written songs that have become timeless.

When you look at that quote and then do a retrospect of Katy's albums that's exactly what she's been attempting to do and I believe she has pulled it off. With each release she has been evolving and giving a new visual and a new idea to the public. You see, in the world wide territory Madonna is by far the best selling female of all time and she didn't achieve this by having a massive peak where one or two albums achieve inflated sales, she achieved this by always selling well by always keeping the general publics interest with every new era. = Katy Perry.
Katy Perry's movie "part of me" was also heavily inspired by Madonna.

Quote:
“Madonna is everything to me, and that movie is amazing, because it caught her at a time when she was a bit more vulnerable,” Perry said of the film, which chronicled the icon’s Blond Ambition Tour. “I wanted to do that too, to capture a snapshot of who I am now so that I can remind myself what I’ve lost if I ever do become totally jaded.”

It's not just me that has noticed Katy Perry's potential. It feels like the general public are on board for this and I couldn't be happier.
Whenever a "new" pop girl achieves some success the media does their usual thing and compares them to Madonna, in relaity it's not the girl that is the "it" girl of the time that's next in line, it's the girl what works hard and is consistent.
While no one will take Madonna's place, Katy Perry seems to be the next big superstar.
