Survey Results: TV's Top 10 Characters People Love to Hate

Nationwide survey reveals viewers favorite villains on most popular shows
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- William Shakespeare wrote that “in time we hate that which we often fear,” and viewers across the country were not afraid about revealing the television characters they most love to hate, according to a recent survey conducted by E-Score®, a leading consumer research service that provides information to media and entertainment companies. E-Score surveyed 1,500 persons with general representation across income, age, education and geographic demographics to represent a cross-section of the U.S. population.
The hit ABC series “Once Upon a Time” took top honors with Regina Mills/The Evil Queen as the number one character on television people love to hate. Also from the show was Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltskin in the number five spot. HBO’s “Game of Thrones” also scored high with Joffrey Baratheon at number two and Cersei Lannister at number six.
The top 10 television characters people most love to hate:
1. Regina Mills/The Evil Queen, “Once Upon a Time,” ABC
2. Joffrey Baratheon, “Game of Thrones,” HBO
3. The Governor, “The Walking Dead,” AMC
4. Hannibal Lecter, “Hannibal,” NBC
5. Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltskin, “Once Upon a Time,” ABC
6. Cersei Lannister, “Game of Thrones,” HBO
7. J.R. Ewing, “Dallas,” TNT
8. Norman Bates, “Bates Motel,” A&E
9. Norma Bates, “Bates Motel,” A&E
10. Dexter Morgan, “Dexter,” Showtime
And finishing 11th for an honorable mention was Kevin Spacey’s Frank Underwood, from the hit Netflix series “House of Cards.”
