Mississippi officials said at least nine people were killed Monday in a tornado outbreak.
Sharon Pell, 49, of Richland, died when her car was blown off Old U.S. 49 north of the city, Rankin County officials said.
Seven people died in Winston County and two others died when their vehicles were blown off roadways, officials said.
In Winston County, one of the victims was day care center owner Ruth Bennett, who died clutching a child as a tornado wiped her business off its foundation, strewing it into the backyard of a neighboring home. The child was taken to a hospital in Jackson.
