With so many creative videos already behind her, it’s got to be hard to top each single’s visual. That’s why she had to do something top secret this time around. Katy created her own fake reality television show, titled “Birthday Blowout,” where she made people believe they were attending an actual TV shoot (but really it was just her music video shoot).
It even made headlines as a 5-year-old’s party was crashed by Katy herself dressed as “Chris the Clown.”
“That was a staged incident,” Katy says. “The car crash was all staged.”
“This is the thing,” Perry explained. “We had to keep everything top secret… so it was skewed as a reality show called birthday blowout. So people signed up their birthday parties for this show where anything could go… and anything did go!”
But does Katy believe she created a great video? “I doing the edit at two o’clock in the morning. When I confirmed the edit and it was good to go, my hands were so sweaty because I’m like ‘this is going to ruin my career,” Katy admitted. “Or it’s going to be the best thing ever!”
