The week I’m visiting, Twigs is in and out of the studio, putting the finishing touches on her debut full-length for Young Turks, due out later this year. She’s been working with a variety of collaborators, but also honing her fluency with synths, drum machines and bass so she can record some of the instrumentals herself. One day, she takes me to Pineapple Dance Studios in Chelsea so I can watch her run through the choreography for a video she’s making for a new song called “Kicks.” It’s slow and soulful, cresting with a breathy refrain, Tell me, what do I do when you’re not here?
