), a subsidiary is essentially a different brand that is owned by a company. As we all have learned well these past few years, Disney is not above snatching up the latest and most promising trends. Their biggest pay-offs have been buying their long time CG-animated partner Pixar Animation a few years ago, buying Marvel Studios just before the Avengers movement took the world by storm, and finally buying Lucasfilm from George Lucas and announcing more Star Wars movies were on the horizon. But these are not the only subsidiaries Disney's stockpiled. ABC and ESPN have been team Disney for years now, Touchstone Pictures has been a great benefit for Disney since the 80s in distributing movies Disney might not want to attach their name to, and Buena Vista Distribution has been with Disney since the first movies (or at least since Cinderella if i'm correct).
