Why? it's annoying and the song was written a certain way for a reason. That'd be like changing Beyonce's lyrics from her latest album to the male gender, when clearly it is a feminist album. It's doing the songs injustice.

Because there are gender differences, some people just sing the songs, and other make them fit to their preference. I can't feel comfortable singing Barbie Girl, so i sing Barbie Boy.

Because if I was singing "if I'm your girl say my name boy", I would be lying to myself...last time I checked I have something down there that isn't a clam

I think ppl are reading into it too much, they're fitting the lyrics to match their desires/who they are.

A very good question. It pisses me off when a guy covers something like "If I Were a Boy" or a girl covers "Fell In Love With a Girl" and they change it to "If I Were a Girl" or "Fell In Love With a Boy." They're compromising the original work because they're afraid someone will think they're, gasp, a homosexual.

If you can't cover the song right, don't cover it at all.
