Is it wrong to label someone as such? Why do you think society respects masculinity much more than femininity? If a person was say, "both," what would they be labeled as? Are these two labels necessary for society?

Basically society wants men to be all macho/masculine and women to be feminine. Those are the norms and people don't like when people stray from them. I don't think it's wrong to label someone as either, as long as it's not meant in a negative way. That being said, labels aren't necessary, but some people identify with them because they've always been a part of society.

Masculinity is seen as the most powerful overall. After all, they say "this is a man's world"... that needs to change.

Generally masculinity is more about being assertive and a leader, I guess that is just seen as a more useful trait.

(edit) just to clarify I mean the traits masculinity and femininity not men and women. everyone has a masculine and a feminine side.

I wouldn't go that far. Not everyone here is like that. I just think a good sociology course would benefit everyone so much :P

Feminism is about women not femininity.

I say among straight men, masculinity is encouraged...but in the gay community, feminine men get more power.

Both have their perks.
