Former Rupaul's Drag Race contestant Defends Ru.
After All The mess that has ensued over RU, ha usuage of the word "Shemale", Season 2 Contestant Sonique Love had this to say on her Facebook page.
Quote:
I think it's silly for every body to be getting all emotional about RuPaul using the word "She-Mail" (MAIL), for RuPaul's Drag Race . Also that they played a game called "Female or She-male". Lighten up people, this is a show to not be taken SO serious, it's fun, funny, and ****ing brilliant! I could see if it was a documentary trying to educate people about trans life, BUT it's not. When serious issues come up on the show about trans people they enlighten the viewers in a positive and supportive way.
The words used in this show are words used in the LGBTQ community everywhere ALL the time. I know this may upset some by me saying this and being transgendered myself, but like I have always been told, "it's not what they call you that matters, it's what you answer to". I think the show is amazing and I'm not at all offended. I giggle when they say things like "Tranny", "She-mail", and "Lady boy". Anytime they have had a trans person on the show they have always respected them and not made jokes. RuPaul , World of Wonder Productions and Logo channel would not purposely seek out to bash trans people.
This show has made history and opened doors for so many of us. Opened the eyes, hearts, and minds of the "outside" world. Being a Drag Queen or Transgendered are household topics now. We no longer have to whisper. We have arrived and we are being heard and seen as real people, who can be stars and in the forefront.
This show has changed my life in a way I never thought could happen for me. Being on the show gave me something I didn't have before which is COURAGE, it also brought happiness where there was none. I am blessed and so thankful to be apart of Rupauls Drag race. I support them 100%, because I know they support me. Let's try to have a little more fun people and be a little less sensitive. I'm in no way trying to offend anyone we are all entitled to our own opinions, but this is my reality of the situation.
