Do you ever base your decision on a class from the rating of a prof online? I'm registering for classes next semester, and I've already shot down two classes because of RMP. Anyone else like this?
Yes it's better to know what to expect when registering for classes. I wouldn't not take a class because of a bad review though Just find a different time session.
Yes. I check that site before I choose new classes for a semester. I don't want bad teachers. I wish I had known about it before I transferred to the university I attend at the moment. I wouldn't have taken a class with the statistics professor I chose if I knew how bad of an instructor she was going to be.
Maybe if there are a variety of professor available in your department (sometimes for ones major classes this is less and less likely). I will say it gives someone a better perspective about what to expect the teacher to be like when you take them
Rate my professor is very helpful, but you should take the ratings with a grain of salt. A lot of students will give terrible ratings, blaming their bad grade on the professor when in fact they're just a **** student.
The ratings are a good indication of how easy the class will be (like managing an A). Though, people either post a positive or negative rating. For example, for one of my Biology classes, I got an A+ and I thought the professor was good, but there were others that said she was one of the worst professors. So that means, people that do not receive the grade they want may be prone to lose their objectivity when rating a professor.
