Celeb News: Ultra Festival may end next year; Miami Mayor threatens

On Sunday, the third and last day of the festival weekend, Miami city officials are warning that if changes aren’t made, they could deny festival organizers permits for next year.

CBS Miami reports that in light of the hundreds of injuries caused by rowdy fans and drug and alcohol abuse, Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado and City Commissioner Marc Sarnoff are calling for major changes.

Said the Mayor, “This is something that could have been avoided. So in the next weeks we are going to have a discussion on the city commission level to deny the permits for next year for the event here in the city of Miami.”

Sarnoff added, “There was a sort of stampede of people who were trying to get in, very much like what happened last year, but it was about 500 people last year. They tried to get into the front gate last year and we had enough security from the City of Miami Police Department. They put their bikes across their chest and they pushed back and they were able to hold the people back. I’m asking the Chief and the Chief of Fire to meet with me, the Mayor, and the Miami-Dade County Mayor. Let’s get through this weekend and put this thing to bed, never come back again.”

Ultra just needs to suck it up and follow their guidelines.

If people don't want to go because they can't abuse drugs, then oh well. I still think plenty of people would go.

I'm sure what he's suggesting isn't unreasonable.

Having heard stories from my cousin in Miami on the **** that goes down, I'm with the mayor on this.

Lol, people aren't going to change. Half of the kids who go are complete TOOLS who don't know how to control their alcohol or drug intake. Love the festival, but I just hate the douches I have to stand next to.

Maybe, maybe not. But only so many tickets can be sold and I'm sure there's demand after they are all sold. All the people who couldn't go because of sold out tickets, could now go. There are many people like myself who love dance music and do not partake in heavy drug use (abusing drugs).

Not that I can afford tickets+travel $$$ right now.

There's no way in hell he's going to end ULTRA with all the cash flow it brings into the city both directly and indirectly. Even if he wanted to, there's no way he'd get the support to do it.
