Is working at a fast food restaurant (Subway, McDonalds, Taco Bell, etc), degrading?

My god yes. I made a promise to myself that I would never work at a McDonalds unless I had no other choice. But right now I'd rather drop dead than work at a fast food joint in my life

No. It's a job, it's a good start.

My mother used to tell me that any job is better than no job. So, no it is not degrading to work at a fast food restaurant.

I've always had an office job, but I don't think there's anything wrong with a fast food job. What's degrading are spoiled people who look down on fast food workers, just because mommy and daddy pays for everything for them.

It's better than sitting on your ass and not working for a living.

I work in Mcdonalds and I don't find anything wrong with it.

Like, it's obviously not an ideal job that you'd want to be there forever (I work in a call center so I understand) but getting a start in the working world is better than no start at all, regardless of the place!

It's not like you're selling drugs or sleeping around for money. I would consider those "jobs" degrading. I don't see anything degrading about providing for yourself by working at a fast food restaurant. And yes I know that this post contradicts my previous one.

I work at McDonald's. I've made some brilliant friends through it & it's so flexible when it comes to needing time off. They also schedule your shifts around your needs, such as childcare or uni. You also get a payrise every year, the amount depending on how well you do in your yearly personal review.

People may look down on it but it's actually a good job to have, especially while being a student like I am. However, I don't know what it's like to work in an American one.
