Would people actually be willing to let criminals go to jail for 8 minutes instead of whatever years? I mean unless this machine kills prisoners that serve life sentences, I don't see the point

Sounds like a waste or abuse of technology. Something like that could be used as a tremendous educational aid, if it were even truly achievable.

This is just a group of wannabe-scientists fantasizing, it bares no relation to actual scientific progress and should be disregarded. This woman probably spent 3/4 of an hour reading about psychoactive drugs on wikipedia, came up with this fanfiction in a "omg wouldn't it be cool if..." moment and is now getting publicity and recognition for it in her field. Your mental processing would accelerate to a rate similar to that of a computer. As a result, you would be able to absorb more information. You don't feel yourself slow down, you feel that everything else does.
