A Palestinian 6 month old baby was killed by shrapnel in the late-night air-strike in Gaza City that aimed the former headquarters of interior Ministry situated at the west of the strip and that in the framework of the ongoing Israeli attacks against Gaza Strip. The attack wounded about 20 residents in the nearby area.

On the other hand, Israeli helicopters launched 2 rockets at least on a blacksmith workshop in Al Zaitoun neighborhood and it also dispatched a rocket on a similar workshop in Khan Younis south of the strip. Yet, no deaths were reported. Moreover, in West Bank Israeli soldiers killed a Palestinian citizen.
On the Israeli part, Hamas hit a rocket towards Sderot southern city and killed an Israeli. This incident provoked Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert who is paying a visit to Japan. Olmert vowed to make the “terrorists” pay a heavy price for rocket attacks against Israel.
Olmert had met US Secretary of State in Tokyo. In fact, Rice had condemned the mutual violence scenario and she uttered her sorrow for the death of the Israeli citizen and called Hamas to stop launching rockets. But she added: “There needs to be due concern for the innocent people and the humanitarian situation in Gaza”. She also said that it is necessary to find a permanent solution for the issue of border passages between Israel and Gaza.
When asked about her expected visit to Mideast next week, Rice said that she expects to hold deep talks with both Palestinian and Israeli parties.
The mutual violence in the Palestinian territory raised the concerns of US Secretary General Ban Ki Moon who uttered apprehension that the escalation of violence in Gaza and South of Israel would hamper peace process and added that it is of an utmost necessity to soothe the situation.
