Um, the last time I checked, the "normal" people are downloading, not buying albums.
Oh, and by the way, it DEFINITELY helps the artist, because it gives artist more exposure and, thus, more fans. The way to "help" artists nowadays is by going to concerts and buying merchandise. That is how you can actively help the artists that perform the music you listen to.
Downloading doesn't help the
labels, which is why you see the RIAA doing these kinds of scare tactics to scare people away from downloading, when, in all actuality, they are the ones who are blind, not your common average Joe.
