You can also use other methods like the sponge, or you can ask your doctor to prescribe you/your friend a NuvaRing or a birth control patch.
Just remember that none of these methods protect you against STDs, and that condoms are the only effective way of avoiding them. And even though all STIs are treatable and most are curable, avoiding them is much better
