1D has been the biggest boy band on the planet for almost 3 years...their faces are everywhere, their fanbase is enormous...but why do they make such little impact?
Going back to huge boybands like Backstreet Boys & NSYNC (some people argue that 1D is even more popular than they were), i can easily name a handful of big hits they had.
And while 1D are big album sellers, the only massive/iconic hit they've had is What Makes You Beautiful. sure they've had a couple 'hits' like Live While We're Young & Best Song Ever, but those songs are already forgotten by everyone except their stans and are never played on radio anymore.
I love 1D so this isnt a bash thread by any means, i've just been confused as to why most of their singles fail to make any significant, lasting impact while they're supposed to be the 'biggest boyband' out right now.
A lot of their music sounds the same, they rush everything they do which doesn't give people much time to take it all in and they honestly bring in nothing new or different. Harry tho
They don't bring anything special to the table , which says a lot because expectations for boy bands aren't that high. Still with that being said we've seen boy-bands done better in the past.

Anyways Story of My Life from their current era says hello, it's currently in the top 10 on the Adult Contemporary chart. So I don't think it's just remembered by their stans. People are paying more attention and responding positively to their more grown up sound so the sky's the limit next album

i know their sales receipts though, yes i know they sell well blah blah but that means nothing in terms of having longevity and songs that have a lasting impact. their singles freefall just as fast as they come
yeah im waiting to see how SoML pans out, it's definitely their biggest radio hit since WMYB
my point was that WMYB is their only major hit, while most boybands of their status have at least 4 or 5
