I'm actually very disappointed in Russell Simmons for not standing up for her more. He could have argued his point so much better.
I don't understand why sex is such a taboo in the U.S.. No one has any problem with violence in art, but when it comes to sex, people get outraged so quickly. It's ironic that the U.S. has the highest numbers of teenage pregnancies. Maybe if sex wasn't seen as such a horrible thing, then people would be more educated and therefore behave more appropriately.
Yes, Beyoncé is an influence to children, but she isn't making music for children and she shouldn't feel obligated to sacrifice her art. Beyoncé is very in touch with her fan base and how she is presenting herself to the world. She knows that a majority of her fan base has grown up with her and are adults. She has spent 10 years of her career being very careful about what she did, because she didn't want to ruin her image. She is now free, and she honestly doesn't care about the criticism.
The funny thing is, if a man had made the same song, Bill O'Reilly wouldn't even turn his head. The blasphemy of a woman talking about having sex in a limo. It's a damn shame, but it isn't even surprising in the least bit. I mean, The Beatles have a song called "Why Don't We Do It In The Road", but no one had a problem with that.
