UK Chart Analysis:
Well, it was a really close call this week as midweeks had newcomer Adele just gripping for that #1 spot & she has pretty much more hype than any other artist in the UK, already being honoured to win the Critics' Choice Award at the 2008 Brit Awards come February, topping the BBC Sound Of 2008 poll a few weeks ago & topping the UK airplay chart for a second week in a row, it was projected that she would easily top the UK singles chart but alas, it was not so. Swedish dance act Basshunter spends a third week at #1 with his meretricious English version of the European megasmash
Boten Anna, the first that a Swedish act has spent that long at #1 since Eric Prydz' dance classic
Call On Me spent 5 weeks at #1 back in 2004. Basshunter also reportedly offered sympathy for our queen of media Britney Spears, wishing that he would share his #1 position with Britney's Swedetastic
Piece Of Me. That's sweet, proving that he's not as much of a **** as I initially had thought. And after debuting at #2 last week on downloads alone, the most hyped about artist Adele stays put in the runner-up position after being released physically last Monday & her having a preponderant amount of airplay compared to Basshunter. Nickelback's pestilentially hideous
Rockstar keeps on climbing up 3 spots to #3, their highest charting single ever in the UK beating
How You Remind Me's peak of #4. Robyn Rihanna Fahey keeps on inching up one spot to #4 with her ineluctable gem
Don't Stop The Music which has pretty much become a European classic for the past 6 months. Queen Britney slips down 3 spots to #6 fresh after her French NRJ Music Award for Best International Album, proving that she really is a legend. Kelly Rowland is definitely pipped to earn a #1 single next week as
Work soars up 24 places to #7 after the Freemasons radio mix was released on UK i-Tunes last week. The superlative Swedish Robyn stays well put at #10 with her gorgeous anthem
Be Mine. David Jordan soaring up to #22 with his tribal CHOON
Sun Goes Down, definitely a future top 5 hit for that one whilst Mary J. Blige soars to #28 with
Just Fine, boding well for a top 15 hit next week with it's physical release out tommorow. Next week, it's a tight battle between Kelly Rowland & Hot Chip, the former which will easily be a top 3 hit next week & the latter which could sneak into the top 10 with the incredible
Ready For The Floor thanks to a great amount of radio airplay.
The Top100 Singles in the UK for the Week [5] Ending 02.02.2008:
1 1 ~ NOW YOU'RE GONE ~ BASSHUNTER FT DJ MENTAL THEO ~ HARD2BEAT ~ H2B01CDS ~ 6 Most successful Swedish hit in the UK since Eric Prydz' "Call On Me" spent 5 weeks at #1 & Rednex's "Cotton Eye Joe" spent 3 weeks at #1 back in 1995.
2 2 ~ CHASING PAVEMENTS ~ ADELE ~ XL RECORDINGS ~ XLS321CD ~ 2 Shame this couldn't hit #1, but her album "19" which is released tommrow is bound to hit #1 next week. So no real worries for her.
6 3 ~ ROCKSTAR ~ NICKELBACK ~ ROADRUNNER ~ RR39323 ~ 15
5 ~ 4 ~ DON'T STOP THE MUSIC ~ RIHANNA ~ DEF JAM ~ 1762161 ~ 26 A future #1 in the making.
4 ~ 5 ~ SUPERSTAR ~ LUPE FIASCO FT MATTHEW SANTOS ~ ATLANTIC ~ AT0298CD2 ~ 3
3 ~ 6 ~ PIECE OF ME ~ BRITNEY SPEARS ~ JIVE ~ 88697221762 ~ 10 A much bigger hit than "Overprotected" which got about the same amount of airplay this has. So suck on it, UK media.
31 ~ 7 ~ WORK ~ KELLY ROWLAND ~ COLUMBIA ~ 88697268382 ~ 5 She owes a massive amount of thanks to the incredible Freemasons, who has resurrected the interest for her album "Ms. Kelly". This song is a CHOON in any format, from the original to the remixes in the dance promo. It's pretty much a lock for top 4, it can go anywhere from #1 to #4 next week. I'm gunning for #1, as it's well deserved & will make up for the stunning threnody "Stole" missing out the #1 position back in 2003 thanks to TATU's classic "All The Things She Said".
