Since I Kissed a Girl and One of The Boys (Album) has Katy done anything risky, edgy or groundbreaking? She tends to play it super safe since Teenage Dream and we thought she was going to switch it up for PRISM but the Roar and Dark Horse videos are basically the same rehashed, kid friendly stuff we're used to getting for Mother Perry. I like ha and I stan for Dark Lord but I have thought about this a few times.

I think she's playing it smart and keeping those younger fans and gaining newer ones and then as they get older she'll be able to mature her sound without alienating her fan base. I personally see Taylor Swift doing the same, and it works!

I wouldn't say it's too safe. But it's certainly VERY safe.

Dark Horse was an initial risk

She could have really slayed with Dark Horse video and gave us ha PRISM dark era. It was already #1 so she had nothing to lose I don't get it

Whatever she's doing, it's obviously working. Look at how well Prism is doing, with already 2 number one singles and possibly a couple more. The album is selling steadily worldwide as well, If she get's a few other big hits I can see it selling over 10 million in the long run. Madonna's fourth album was Like A Prayer, which was risky and pushed boundaries, her first 3 albums were just made for the purpose of hits. Since Katy is the new Madonna, maybe her fourth album will be the same?

Hummingbird Heartbeat was a #1 hit but she released The One That Got Away. The same with Peacock.

Waking Up In Vegas, Thinking Of You, Unconditionally, TOTGA and even Dark Horse are not safe single options.

I wouldn't say Dark Horse was a risk as she only released it once it was proving to be very popular. It's clear Katy would not have released it before they saw there was a market for it.

Yes they absolutely were safe single options. Katy her entire musical catalog outside of some songs on OOTB is safe. The riskiest thing she's done since then is Dark Horse and she wasn't even going to release it until it went #1 on its own. Then she gave us that video
