Yes but only if the person has suffered in jail for a while first.
And obv if they're completely sure they committed murder.

Nope it's 2014
Those medieval punishments should have been left in the past.
Every western country in the world already abolished death penalty except for the US but hopefully they get some common sense as well soon.

No, its obviously worse to suffer the rest of your life in jail than receiving the death penalty.

this is why prisoners always request the death sentence, right? Wait, nope, that doesn't ever happen. Sorry, death is worse than a cell.
They should have it, of course, but they should only use the death penalty in the most serious of cases: murder, rape, drug possession, theft over $5000, etc.

Sometimes jail can be worse. People fight, and people can even be beaten to death in a jail fight. That said, I don't fully agree with it. But if someone is executed, at least let it be by lethal injection while they're asleep or something. Hangings, Decapitation, cyanide gas chamber and electric chair are ALL too harsh and gruesome (even if some murderers are quite ruthless themselves). I saw a quote about this somewhere and I agreed. Gentler methods is what separates us (the state) from them (the murderer). Also, only the MOST serious crimes, which is basically only murder, massacre and the like...
__
off topic, but most murders are over some of the stupidest things, and they think forensics won't get them. I never want to have anyone take out a life insurance policy on me... it might as well be a death sentence...

Yes if the person did such a severe crime where they get a life sentence or even multiple.
If there is no possibility of them getting out why spend tax dollars giving them shelter/clothing/3 meals a day for the rest of their lives?
Edit - I do realize the endless appeals can be very costly for the state also, I just can't wrap my head why a murderer basically gets all the basics covered but we have funding issues with homeless shelters/food banks ect.

Nope. I believe in letting people that have done terrible things rot. Killing them just lets them escape Plus, I don't think that killing people is right

I feel the exact same way. They also have free TV, exercise equipment, books... hell, even singers/bands do concerts in prisons. Granted, I don't think that is much of a thing anymore. Still, i think mass murderers/mass rapists should be sentenced to death penalty instead of stay alive and feel no remorse and fantasize about what they did while the families stay in suffering.
Edit: But I don't think just anyone should get it. An eye-for-an-eye makes the world blind, so I think the only correct targets would be mass murders/mass rapists/people associated with organ trading/etc.

No. Not because I'm against murders being killed, but because there have been cases where the person convicted was exonerated after death. Plus in the US, the application of the death penalty is bias. The overwhelming majority of death penalty convictions occur in the South, and there's no evidence that the death penalty actually prevents crime. Plus, with all the appeals, it ends up costing more money and takes so much time. Life in prison is better.

Kinda low, tbh. There would be a LOT of people on their death beds, tbh.
I don't even think theft should be a cause to get the death penalty, though.

Back in the old days, it didn't cost any extra.
You would have judges who looked stern and judge-y, like this, and they could order someone hanged the next day for as little as stealing a shirt.
