Basically, Putin is being a complete dick, and wanting to invade Ukraine and possibly other countries. The US and UK are doing whatever they can to STAY OUT of it, but I feel like they wont' have a choice soon.
I'm not entirely sure what the MASSIVE problem is. The area in which Russia has 'invaded' is inherently Russian. If I am not mistaken, that particular area has been keen on becoming a Russian territory and thus, a referendum was set for later the year, prior to the outbreak of public backlash to the Ukrainian government.

But Russia has invaded all of the Ukraine, not just that particular area anymore.

Ukrainians are Ukrainians and Russians are Russians. A lot of Russians live in Ukraine, yes, but it's not the reason for Russia to invade Ukraine. That's like saying a lot of Mexicans live in the US, so it's ok for Mexico to invade the US.
