A fingerprint scanner hadn't been done before on other smart phones. Other smart phones used a fingerprint sensor that had been used for decades on computers etc.
A biometric fingerprint scanner actually scans your fingerprint etc. and saves an image of it on your phone. A sensor works differently (you have to swipe your whole finger slowly) whereas you only need your finger on a 5S for half a second (most of the time you can press the home button to unlock and you don't even get a chance to see your home-screen. So yes, Apple did it first. And better.)
Apple also used a 64 bit processor in the 5S that was labelled as "pointless" until it proved to be incredibly fast, to the point it was the fastest phone with only a dual-core. Samsung have already said they are trying to include one as soon as they can.
Apple fans also never call anything "innovative" and "groundbreaking" if it had been done before. But what gets most Android users angry is that when Apple do it, there is often a higher quality to which critics and the GP then agree it sets a new standard.
Siri was noted by the GP and users as "better" than what was available at the time. That's why Siri caught on and others didn't. There was a higher quality to Siri, hence why it was recognised more by the General Public.
