Should there be "men's" and "women's" sports?
I was watching the Olympics and realized they showed the ENTIRE Canada vs Latvia men's game, but only showed a couple tiny clips of the women's...
Doesn't seem fair - why don't they just have "ice hockey" and let both genders compete in the same game? Same with other sports like fencing, ski jumping, curling, etc.
Seems discriminatory to me, and they always seem to focus on the men - look at the popularity of men's basketball, men's soccer, men's football, men's hockey, vs the female leagues.
Why don't they do away with these gender barriers?

There shouldn't. If you want to play a sport, play it.
EDIT : Wait I misunderstood this, I thought that you're asking if we should like not allow females to play a certain sport.
When it comes to competing between males and females in the same sport I think there should be a barrier I guess, it's biology after all.

Cause that's dumb.
Male and female have different bodies, different strength, agility.
Men are stronger than women, point, so it's unfair to let them compete against each other.

Yes.
Because really, with all respect to women, women generally don't have the same physical potential as men, especially on this stage of physical activity. It would only cause unnatural upbringing which would try to artificially make women more similar to men.

I think it has more to do with physique. Think about it, you wouldn't let a muscular man wrestle a woman without the same physique, even so he might have an advantage due to natural causes.
Just my way of thinking.

And the Olympics way of thinking, and the way of thinking of every sports organization everywhere.
I thought it was known why men and women aren't competing against each other in fysical sports.

^that seems discriminatory though
It's like saying "sorry females, you are not as good"
what if they are as good and want to compete?
And they'll rarely get the same kind of fame or exposure stuck in some women's league

Well they always take the best players, so if they did this all the players would be men and there wouldn't be any women at all.

No one's saying that. Its just there's environmental and natural factors that need to be taken into consideration. It's certainly not an act of discrimination.

Yes. Coming from a soccer playing female, (on an almost all guy team)
I'd much rather play against other girls.
I mean, the injuries, I get ****ed up somehow always

P.S. there are some mixed gender sports now. There was a mixed biathlon earlier this week in Sochi.

Men and women have different bodies. This is a fact. Because of this, there are many sports in which well-trained, athletic women simply can't compete on the same level that well-trained, athletic men can in terms of mere strenght.
I'm not being sexist AT ALL when I say I don't want to see women have to go up against men in an ice hockey match and bodycheck each other, or in American Football, or in Soccer, or any sport with similar or higher physicality than those. I wonder if some people here don't realize how intense many of these sports are.
So team sports such as these: no mixed competitions. Just no. Not anything where competitors go head to head with each other in direct physical confrontation and put their body and health on the line everytime they do.
But I loved the Mixed Biathlon they had, that was a great idea. And that's definitely something that can be done!

It is a biological FACT that men are naturally more muscular than women.
By combining the men and women teams hardly any women would even be able to participate because they would be outplayed by the men.
Sorry, but it's true.
If you think it's a good idea to mix them than you've obviously never played a physical sport.

its a biological fact that men are generally bigger, stronger, etc.
there are likely a few girls who could go head to head with the guys easily. but if men and women were competing for spots on the same olypmic team, fact is that almost no girls would get to play.

The only reason they don't fully show women sports is because the GP isn't for it.

And about non-contact sports, such as running, tennis, curling, luge, 10-meter air pistol, etc?
Why should those kinds of sports be separated?
