New FILTER Single Has Good Fortune At Radio
Singer Richard Patrick (FILTER, ARMY OF ANYONE) posted a voice message on the FILTER MySpace page yesterday confirming that a new FILTER album is in the works — tentatively due in early 2008.
He said: "It's official: I am totally cramming on a new FILTER record. I'm working with some amazing people — all new people… A-list producers — actually, one A-list producer. The only person that's old, or from the other records, is a little guy named Rae DiLeo.
"This is absolutely the most amazing stuff I've ever done, and I'm really proud of it.
"[As far as a possible release date is concerned] we're looking sometime into 2008 — probably, maybe springish.
"[I'm] very proud of it… and, yeah, there's a lot of really cool people working n this with me, and I'll let you know who those guys are when we get closer to a release date. But it's on — it's on, it's coming."
FILTER's last studio album, "The Amalgamut", came out in 2002. A tour in support of the CD ended abruptly a few weeks in when Patrick decided he needed to go to rehab. He has since tattooed his date of sobriety, September 28, 2002, on his forearm.

Filter Frontman Likens Comeback LP To A 'Heavy U2 Record'
Former members of Limp Bizkit, Marilyn Manson's band contributed to next year's politically charged Anthems for the Damned.
By Chris Harris
The last time Filter — the epic-sounding industrial maelstrom fronted by Richard Patrick — released a new album was more than five years ago, with the band's third studio offering, 2002's The Amalgamut. After that, Patrick spent time sorting out various personal issues and later teamed up with ex-Stone Temple Pilots Dean and Robert DeLeo to form Army of Anyone. That band, now on hiatus, released its self-titled debut last year, and Patrick said he'd love to "do more records with them in the future."
But while many people may have assumed Filter were long dead and very-much buried, Patrick claims that's not the case and never has been. In fact, not once during these last five years has Patrick ever given up on Filter — instead, he's been working on songs off and on for about four years now. And he thinks the tracks he's come up with — around 25 in all — take Filter's anthemic style to a whole new level.
"I'm not straying from that classic Filter sound," Patrick told MTV News in his first interview since announcing Filter's return earlier this month. "But, because I'm a little older and a little wiser, [the sound has] definitely evolved. The first two or three songs are just straight-up industrial powerhouses, and then it goes into the huge-sounding stuff that people are kind of familiar with."
Patrick said it was playing old Filter material during live sets with Army of Anyone that convinced him that the band had to be resurrected.
"But this is not a comeback," he clarified. "Filter's my legacy. It's just like Al Jourgensen with Ministry. This is something I took very seriously, something I quit Nine Inch Nails to do, and it has allowed me so much freedom as an artist. I would never turn my back on the thing that has always been the #1 thing in my life. And the core fans that I have, they're expecting a great record. I knew I'd have to return with the goods, and I'm absolutely convinced that that's what I have with this record."
Titled Anthems for the Damned, Filter's fourth effort could be in stores as soon as late March, Patrick said. The rocker tracked the entire LP in about two weeks, with producer Josh Abraham (Slayer, Velvet Revolver) behind the boards. Patrick also called on several of his musician buddies to assist with Anthems, including ex-Limp Bizkit/ current Black Light Burns guitarist Wes Borland, and hired-gun drummer Josh Freese (A Perfect Circle, NIN).
Filter's fourth opus will also feature former Marilyn Manson/ Rob Zombie guitarist John 5, who wrote two of the album's tracks with Patrick and Borland.
"I started mingling with L.A.'s people, and John was someone I've known for years," Patrick explained. "I met him through Manson, and in May, I called him and said, 'Let's do a Filter record,' and he was like, 'Absolutely.' He came over, and we worked a few songs out. With Filter, there's a formula — a structure. There's a certain amount of things you have to know, and John sort of instantly knew what I needed and wanted for the record. It's the magic of collaboration."
Patrick also revealed that Anthems for the Damned is a highly political venture.
"I'm having a look around, as a person, and I look at us humans and I just think, 'What are we going to tell people? How are we going to explain ourselves in 100 years when the planet's f---ed up and you can't repair it?' " said Patrick, who added that he and his wife are expecting their first child, a daughter, in February. "Every song is just so anthemic; it just has this hugeness to it, that I was just like, 'These are anthems for the damned.'
"We are guilty — all of us — between the war in Iraq and the environment," he continued. "We're damned, if we don't fix this. With this record, I'm just throwing my hands up in the air, going, 'I guess we're just going to f--- this sh-- up, and ruin the planet.' It's a little less optimistic and more inspired by frustration and anger toward what we're doing. It comes from a way darker place, and it's heavy — the first three songs are really heavy, and I'm proud of that. I miss that in music. I don't want to pigeonhole myself, but it's almost like a heavy U2 record."

Filter: Anthems for the Damned due out in May
FILTER RETURNS WITH ‘ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED’ DUE OUT THIS MAY
FIRST SINGLE “SOLDIERS OF MISFORTUNE” TO BE RELEASED LATER THIS MONTH
BAND TO PREVIEW NEW MUSIC AT SPECIAL PRE-RELEASE CALIFORNIA CLUB SHOWS BEGINNING MARCH 2
FILTER is back.
After a five-year hiatus and a successful run with Army of Anyone, RICHARD PATRICK has reclaimed his legacy with FILTER for ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED, due out this May.
Produced by Josh Abraham (Slayer, 30 Seconds to Mars, Velvet Revolver, Staind, Courtney Love), PATRICK calls ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED his “howl in the night,” a harsh indictment of civilization that doesn’t exclude himself from its vision of a world falling apart.
The album’s first single “Soldiers of Misfortune” will be released later this month. PATRICK describes the soaring anthem--with its U2/Bowie flavor and stacked backdrop of buzzing electric guitars--as a “sardonic anti-war/pro-troops song.” The first-person narrative was inspired by a letter from a FILTER fan who had enlisted in the Army reserves to get his college tuition paid; in his final year of college, he was shipped off to Iraq where he died from a rocket attack and small arms fire after just a few days of duty.
FILTER will preview tracks from ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED alongside such FILTER classics as “Hey Man, Nice Shot,” “Take a Picture” and others when they hit the road for special California club shows next month. The band will follow the shows with additional U.S. shows just prior to the album’s release, mixing headlining shows, festival appearances and radio shows.
ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED features such collaborators as guitarist/songwriter John 5, guitarist Wes Borland and drummer Josh Freese and marks FILTER’s first release in five years since The Amalgamut. Pointed and passionate, the new album traces PATRICK’s own anger and shame with the state of things, from the intense alternative industrial blast of “The Take,” “What’s Next” and “Hatred is Contagious,” the ultimate resignation of “Kill the Day” and “Lie After Lie” to the tentative hope expressed by “Only You” and the ambient soundscape of the closing “Can Stop This.”
FILTER’s club shows are as follows:
DATE CITY VENUE
March 2 San Diego, CA The Casbah
March 3 Orangevale, CA Boardwalk
March 4 San Francisco, CA Café DuNord

FILTER Frontman Comments On New Album Title Inspiration
The Pulse of Radio reports that the new FILTER lineup was unveiled by frontman and founder Richard Patrick earlier this week at shows in San Diego on March 2, Orangevale, California on March 3 and San Francisco on March 4. The band also introduced fans at the shows to a couple of new songs from the new FILTER album, "Anthems for the Damned", which will arrive on May 13. Patrick told The Pulse of Radio what inspired him to call the record "Anthems for the Damned". "All of us, if we don't change what's going on with human behavior, it's almost like I'm singing a farewell song to humanity," he said. "I cannot believe that in the face of nature, that in the face of what we're doing on this planet, that we are still the greedy, evil bastards that we are. And within the entertainment of a CD, of a rock CD, I would hope to have some kind of message this time."

New FILTER Single Has Good Fortune At Radio
The first new FILTER single in six years, called "Soldiers of Misfortune", made a huge impact at rock radio this week, with nearly 40 stations adding the song to their playlists. That should please frontman Richard Patrick, who told The Pulse of Radio the song was based on his feelings about the Iraq war and its effect on the troops serving there. "There's so many artists out there that focus on their money, and they focus on, like, girl-boy problems, and I think that's great, and that has a place," he said. "But for FILTER, I'm a new dad and when my daughter's 20, I want her to know that I did something, and I tried to say something with my art. When I wrote 'Soldiers of Misfortune', I wanted to write the ultimate anthem for the soldiers of misfortune, the soldiers of the Iraq war."
"Soldiers of Misfortune" will appear on FILTER's new album, "Anthems for the Damned", which is due out May 13.
