One time on Starcraft online I pretended to be a girl for like 2 hours just to get to play a match with someone who was considered to be "one of the best in the world". It was a mess, but worth it because I got to play.

Yes. When I was nine or so I was really into Survivor (and still am) and the official Survivor website had its own chatroom and for god knows what reason I decided to pretend to be one of the recently booted contestants, who, if I remember correctly, was a rocket scientist. I even casually dropped details I gleaned from his profile on the site. I'd say as many as 80% of the people in the chat believed me. Eventually my mom called me for dinner and I was like, "okay everyone, I have to get back to my job as a ROCKET SCIENTIST."

Yes, when I was 15 and closeted I lied to this older guy I met online who lived across the country. He was 36, but he thought I was 18 and it became really serious. We talked on the phone almost every day and even offered to pay for me to fly out and meet him. He even called me crying after his mother passed away. The sad part is that I used pictures of a French foreign exchange student that was at my school. I didn't want my real picture to be connected to anything gay. I kept stringing him along until one day I just cut off all contact. He tried to get in touch with me for a month before he quit.
